Start of main content,

Oana Catalina Chitu grew up in north-eastern Romania and moved to Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Ceausescu regime. There she founded the Balkan band Romenca together with Serbian accordionist Dejan Jovanovic. Her reinterpretations of traditional Roma music as well as songs from the repertoire of Maria Tanase, also known as the "Romanian Edith Piaf", are characterized by a romantic-balladic to powerfully rousing note. With her authentic and at the same time free interpretations of tangos à la romanesque, Oana Catalina Chitu is part of a new, dazzling scene. Her diva-like charisma is reminiscent of times long gone when bohemians and intellectuals met in the salons of Bucharest. She will be accompanied by her long-time musical friend and award-winning accordionist Dejan Jovanovic, saxophonist Vladimir Karparov, violinist Anna-Catinca Jovanovic and accordionist Gregor Jovanovic.
